Size Tier Calculator: Determine FBA Fees for Your Products
Published: January 2025
Amazon's size tier system determines your FBA fulfillment fees. Understanding and optimizing your size tier can significantly impact profitability.
What are Amazon Size Tiers?
Amazon categorizes products into size tiers based on:
- Dimensions: Length, width, height
- Weight: Product weight
- Length + Girth: For oversize items
Each tier has different FBA fulfillment fees. Smaller tiers = lower fees = higher profit.
Standard Size Tiers
- Small Standard: Up to 15" × 12" × 0.75", up to 1 lb
- Large Standard: Up to 20" × 14" × 8", up to 20 lbs
Standard size items have lower fees and are easier to fulfill.
Oversize Tiers
- Small Oversize: Larger than standard, up to 71 lbs
- Medium Oversize: Even larger, up to 150 lbs
- Large Oversize: Largest items, up to 150 lbs
Oversize items have significantly higher fees due to special handling requirements.
How Size Tier Affects Fees
FBA fees vary dramatically by size tier:
- Small Standard: ~$3.22 per unit
- Large Standard: ~$4.75 per unit
- Small Oversize: ~$8.26+ per unit
- Large Oversize: ~$75+ per unit
Moving from Large Standard to Small Standard can save $1.50+ per unit!
Real-World Example
Let's say you have a product:
- Dimensions: 12" × 10" × 8"
- Weight: 1.5 lbs
- Current tier: Large Standard
- FBA fee: $4.75
If you optimize packaging to 12" × 10" × 0.75":
- New tier: Small Standard
- New FBA fee: $3.22
- Savings: $1.53 per unit
If you sell 100 units/month, that's $153/month or $1,836/year in savings!
How to Optimize Size Tier
- Reduce packaging: Use minimal packaging
- Optimize dimensions: Make one dimension very small
- Reduce weight: Lighter products = lower fees
- Check before production: Design with size tier in mind
